Position Title: Coordinator of Safety, Security, & Extended Learning Opportunities
Department: Administration
Reports To: Superintendent or Designee

SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Safety, Security, and Extended Learning Opportunities provides leadership and coordination of district-wide safety and security initiatives while overseeing extended learning programs at the ASPIRE Acadeemy designed to enhance student academic achievement and enrichment opportunities. This position ensures that all schools operate within a safe, secure, and supportive environment while expanding learning opportunities during and beyond the traditional school day through after-school, summer, and enrichment programs.
The coordinator collaborates with district leaders, school administrators, community partners, and public safety agencies to implement safety protocols, emergency preparedness plans, and student enrichment initiatives aligned with district goals. Additionally, the Coordinator serves as the District Hearing Officer, facilitating student disciplinary hearings and ensuring due process in accordance with district policy, state law, and applicable regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor district-wide school safety and security plans in alignment with state and federal requirements.
  • Serve as the district liaison with local law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and community partners regarding school safety and crisis response.
  • Coordinate and monitor emergency preparedness plans, including lockdown, evacuation, and reunification procedures.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and facility reviews to identify potential security concerns and implement preventative measures.
  • Provide training and professional development for staff regarding school safety procedures, crisis response, and emergency protocols.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of district safety technologies including surveillance systems, access control systems, visitor management systems, and communication tools.
  • Assist schools in developing and maintaining site-based safety plans.
  • Coordinate safety drills and ensure compliance with state-mandated safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reporting as required by state and district policies.
  • Serve as the District Hearing Officer by conducting student disciplinary hearings and ensuring fair and consistent application of district policies and procedures.
  • Review disciplinary documentation, hear evidence, and make determinations in accordance with district policy, due process requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain an emotionally healthy and physically safe environment conducive to the educational development of students and the professional development of staff and provide plans for emergency situations.
  • Ensures that all activities are focused on creating and maintaining a learning environment that complies with federal and state law, as well as the policies of the Board of Education.
  • Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline according to due process and respect for the rights of students.
  • Assist with the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of the staff, both licensed and classified.
  • Develops an orientation process that clarifies program goals and expectations.
  • Communicate hearing outcomes and recommendations to district leadership, school administrators, students, and families as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of disciplinary hearings and decisions.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of extended learning opportunities including after-school programs, summer learning initiatives, tutoring programs, and academic enrichment activities.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to design extended learning programs that support student academic growth, remediation, and enrichment.
  • Designs and implements staff development based on needs and rooted in evidence-based research.
  • Consults with, and coordinates the services of, resource personnel for effective assistance to classroom teachers, students, and families.
  • Identify and develop partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions to expand student learning opportunities.
  • Monitor program effectiveness using student performance data and program participation metrics.
  • Assist with the development and management of budgets related to safety initiatives and extended learning programs.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting with grant requirements and programs supporting extended learning opportunities.
  • Provide support to schools in coordinating student supervision, staffing, and scheduling for extended learning activities.
  • Attends program events and functions.
  • Participates in administrative meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Represent the district in local, regional, and state meetings related to school safety and student enrichment programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in education, school administration, school safety, student services, or related leadership roles.
  • Experience coordinating programs, managing safety initiatives, or working with student discipline and hearings preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board (Superintendent) may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid South Carolina certification in administration or supervision preferred.
  • Training or certification related to school safety, crisis management, student discipline, or emergency preparedness preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of school safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of district discipline policies, student due process requirements, and applicable state laws related to student discipline.
  • Knowledge of extended learning and enrichment program development.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships with community organizations and agencies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use information to improve programs and services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages employees at the ASPIRE Academy. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipling employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Supervises and maintains the operation, personnel, students, curriculum, budget, finances, and all records within the ASPIRE Program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, instructional manuals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, staff, administrators, regulatory agencies, or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, public groups/community, and board of education.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of assessment data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
SALARY: Projected Salary Range (Certified Coordinator Scale) - $73,950 - $102,000
